Parks in Beaufort
Beaufort parks are a place where one can go to get away from it all, a mini vacation... a place that refreshes the mind and the body.
Chambers Water Front Park
The Beaufort Waterfront Park, (Henry C. Chambers Park), built in 1979, is one of Beaufort's most popular and relaxing parks. Here you can find swinging benches, a large grassy area, a playground and a pavilion that is used for all types of events. The Park is lined with many stores, food establishments and taverns. A marina is also located here which provides a great view of many types of boats. Fishing and shrimping are very popular on the seawall. Large tour vessels often dock against the seawall when picking up passengers or for a layover.
Hunting Island State Park
Hunting Island State Park is a 5,000 acre State Park with over 3 miles of Atlantic beach, 200 site campground, cabins, lagoon, marsh walk, fishing pier, lighthouse, Nature trails and water/showers. The lagoon is a popular fishing spot as well as a nice spot to just watch nature in it's natural environment. Hundreds of different animal species make this their home.
The Sands in Port Royal
The "Sands", a river beach, is a popular gathering point for the locals and a is fantastic spot to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July.
A boat landing is located here which has 3 landing ramps and a large floating dock. A boardwalk spans over the banks of the Battery Creek waterway. The walkway leads to a 5 level tower that provides a bird's eye view of the marshes, river and Ecosystem.
Other Popular Park Areas
The Kate Gleason park behind Beaufort Memorial Hospital and the large grass areas on the water front of Beaufort are very popular.
