It seems that where nature is most beautiful, the bugs are most plentiful, and the Low Country does have more than its share of bugs! Why you ask? It is because the Beaufort area has so much nature and wildlife. The bugs we all slap and curse is the very reason the wildlife exists here. The bugs are a primary food source for the wildlife. In other words...
  no bugs = no wildlife. Of course, deer and raccoon would be here, but most of the bird life and other creatures would be very scarce if the bugs vanished. At some point in their lives, bugs are the main food for most of these animals. This does not mean the bugs have to rule the area. Bugs have to eat and they don't care where they get their food. Both humans and animals get their share of bug bites. This index will cover some of the worst biting bugs,
