| Beaufort
County has made tremendous headway towards the improvement of the education system in the Lowcountry. These efforts have helped South Carolina regain status when compared to National standards. This demonstrates a commitment to our future. The citizens of Beaufort County know the key to our future is education. In recent years, school referendums have helped build new schools and renovate existing schools throughout the county. The County schools are governed by an 11 member citizen board, who are elected, and a superintendent who is appointed by the board. As of 1998, the student population was more than 15,000, from pre kindergarten through the 12th grade. Prevocational education in business, industrial arts, home arts, and computer science are offered at the middle and high school levels. |
